Refused is a Swedish hardcore punk band formed in 1991 in Umeå, Sweden. Known for their politically charged lyrics and innovative sound, they became one of the most influential bands in the post-hardcore and punk scenes. Their most celebrated album, The Shape of Punk to Come (1998), blended punk, hardcore, jazz, and electronic influences, shaping the future of aggressive music.
The band initially broke up in 1998 but reunited in 2012 and has since continued to perform and release new material. In 2025, Refused announced a farewell tour, marking the end of their career with a series of shows across North America, Europe, and the UK.
Their music often tackles themes of anti-capitalism, resistance, and personal empowerment, making them a defining voice in hardcore punk.
